SWF Voices Support for New Bipartisan ORBITS Act

Senator John Hickenlooper of Colorado, along with Senators Lummis, Cantwell, and Wicker, introduced the Orbital Sustainability (ORBITS) Act. This bipartisan legislation advances active debris remediation and promotes national standards to address the growing risks posed by orbital debris.

The bill authorizes a federal demonstration program focused on technologies that can remove existing debris and includes provisions to coordinate U.S. government standards for debris mitigation and remediation.

Secure World Foundation welcomes the introduction of the ORBITS Act as an important step toward strengthening long-term sustainability in Earth’s orbital environment.
