Wednesday, May 16, 2018

The 1st Latin American Workshop on Global Governance of Space Resources was held in Santos, Brazil from May 16-17, 2018. The Workshop focused on discussion of, and collecting feedback on, from a Latin American perspective, the policy and legal context for space resources development, including the Building Blocks suggested by the Hague International Space Resources Governance Working Group. SWF Director of Private Sector Programs Ian Christensen was one of the invited presenters at the Workshop. Mr. Christensen's remarks focused on increasingly commercial character of the space domain, including space resources as an example of novel private sector activities. Mr. Christensen's presentation highlighted the SWF Handbook for New Actors in Space as example of the importance of documenting existing best practices for responsible space operations as part of developing legal and policy frameworks for novel space applications.
