Side Meeting at SmallSat 2024 | Masterclass: Communicating the Value of Space Activities

When: Tuesday, August 6, 2024

Time: 9:45-10:45 AM

Where: 38th Annual Small Satellite Conference | Logan, UT, USA

Space-based Earth observations can play a key role in addressing global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, disasters, and other socioeconomic and environmental issues through their ability to capture data over a range of spatial, spectral, and temporal resolutions. But do the public, policymakers, and end users truly understand the value of Earth observation and other space data and assets to address problems on Earth? In reality, many space organizations often struggle with communications, marketing, and social media campaigns on these issues. This session will feature a variety of communications and space experts to discuss strategies for improving community understanding of how space assets and data can serve as a tool for action in the world. Audience members will walk away with a better understanding of how to frame their websites, communications materials, presentations, and other key outreach tools in order to convey key messages about the value of space activities to the public and other stakeholders.
