Space High-end Dialogue Series 2023:Satellite Constellations for Connectivity and Societal Infrastructure: Perspectives on Navigating Shared Challenges in the Path to Successful Deployment

When: Thursday, December 7, 2023

Where: Virtual

The Chinese Society of Astronautics (CSA), Caelus Foundation (CF), and Secure World Foundation (SWF) will jointly hosted the "Space High-end Dialogue Series 2023" as a virtual event. As American and Chinese companies continue to mature in their development and deployment of satellite constellations, the commercial objectives these systems seek to achieve are increasingly viewed as part of societal infrastructure. This dialogue exchanged viewpoints on the shared challenges, and cooperative perspectives on addressing those challenges that these constellations face in achieving that infrastructure role. It will ask how can major space powers ensure these constellations are developed and deployed in a way that is inclusive, meaningful, and economically sustainable?

Participating organizations included:

United States People's Republic of China
  • Amazon's Kuiper Project
  • Iridium
  • Kayhan Space
  • SpaceX Starlink
  • Beijing Institute of Technology
  • Changguang Satellite Technology Co. Ltd.
  • Emposat Co. Ltd
  • Galactic Energy Co. Ltd.

This dialogue was part of a continuing series of conversations hosted by CF, CSA and SWF, dedicated to deepening bilateral communication and understanding, and helping space organizations of China and US to establish effective working mechanisms for beneficial exchange. The event was held on a not-for-attribution basis under Chatham House rule; and included some participants who had attended prior sessions in the DIalogue series.
