Regulator Dialogue on Approaches to Licensing of Large Constellations

When: Tuesday, June 21, 2022

Time: 0900 - 1700 GMT

Where: London, England

As increasing numbers of large satellite constellations in Low Earth Orbit  are planned and launched, the existing capacity of the regulatory framework and processes for managing these constellations in a safe and sustainable manner is stressed.  Large LEO constellations pose a number of unique challenges for regulatory processes that are primarily designed to administer spectrum access, coordination, and interference matters. This workshop brought together national regulators from multiple countries to discuss with each other these challenges, their approaches to licensing large constellations, and potential solutions. The workshop covered several different challenges, with a case focus on the topic of orbital carrying capacity.
