LEO Kinetic Space Safety Workshop

When: Wednesday, May 4, 2022

to Thursday, May 5, 2022

Where: Lausanne, Switzerland

The LEO Kinetic Space Safety Workshop aimed to provide specific solutions and pragmatic actions to enhance LEO collisional space safety. A community survey was conducted before the event to identify and assess solutions for kinetic space safety. The workshop brought together international experts, space practitioners, and others to debate specific solutions over the course of a two-day workshop. Keynote speakers detailed the current states-of-the-art in spacecraft impact tolerance, collision avoidance, debris prevention, and debris remediation. Interactive roundtable discussions also assessed the identified proposals, focusing on their benefit, cost, and maturity. Following the workshop, the organizers intend to publish two papers: a position paper, informed by the workshop, with specific recommendations that will serve as a call to action for addressing these challenges, and a compilation and analysis of the results of the community polling.

The workshop was held as an in-person event at the Swiss Technology Convention Center in Lausanne, Switzerland. More information about the event, including the program, can be found here.
