Building Upon Regional Space-based Solutions for Disaster Management and Emergency Response for Africa

When: Tuesday, July 6, 2010

to Friday, July 9, 2010

Where: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

This workshop attracted over 80 key decision makers and senior experts from both the space community as well as the disaster risk reduction and emergency response communities. Certainly, this regional workshop ensured that participants become aware of the full potential that space-based information offers for disaster risk management and emergency response and how to take advantage of the existing regional and international opportunities in this regard. This will eventually contribute to a reduction in loss of lives and property due to disasters in the African continent in the future and is therefore fully aligned with SWF's priority to foster "Improved human security through the use of space services for development, disaster relief, humanitarian assistance, and environmental protection."
