On February 23, 2010, Secure World Foundation hosted an event titled “Enhancing Space Security: Expert Recommendations.” Dr. Laurence Nardon of IFRI (Institut français des relations internationals), Dr. Bruce MacDonald of the United States Institute of Peace, and Dr. Ray Williamson of Secure World Foundation presented their thoughts on how space security could best be strengthened. SWF Participates in DARPA-Sponsored Conference on Orbital Debris Removal

Secure World Foundation, represented by Technical Advisor Brian Weeden, participated in the International Conference on Orbital Debris Removal, sponsored by NASA and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The conference, held in Chantilly, Virginia, December 8-10, 2009 featured panel discussions on both policy and technical challenges and opportunities. Weeden's presentation, entitled "An Opportunity for Leadership and Cooperation", focused on the policy angle. A press release about the event can be found here and here

 

 

SWF's Brian Weeden Presents on Space Security Index in Ottawa

SWF Technical Advisor Brian Weeden gave a presentation on the 2009 Space Security Index during a meeting of the Ad-Hoc Space Caucus at the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa, Canada. Presentation took place on December 2, 2009 at 1230-1300 local time. 

 

 

SWF's Williamson, Others Provide Testimony to Congress  

Dr. Ray Williamson, SWF Executive Director, provided testimony to Congress today on the subject of the growth of global space capabilities. Joining him on the panel were Marty Hauser, J.P. Stevens, Dr. Scott Pace, and Dr. Kai-Uwe Schrogl. More here.

 

 

SWF Executive Director to Provide Congressional Testimony  

Dr. Ray Williamson, SWF Executive Director, is scheduled to provide testimony before the House Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics. The hearing, "The Growth of Global Space Capabilities: What’s Happening and Why It Matters," will also feature input from Marty Hauser of the Space Foundation, J.P. Stevens of the Aerospace Industries Association, Dr. Scott Pace of The George Washington University's Space Policy Institute, and Dr. Kai-Uwe Schrogl of the European Space Policy Institute. SWF-CRECTEALC Workshop Briefings Available  

CRECTEALC partnered with SWF to produce a workshop entitled Space Policy in Latin-America and the Caribbean: Looking to the Future, held in Mexico City, Mexico during November 3-5, 2009. The purpose was to discuss the future of cooperative space programs in Latin America and the Caribbean. SWF, represented by Dr. Ray Williamson and Agnieszka Lukaszczyk, was instrumental in organizing the meeting with CRECTEALC, including development of the agenda and management of the meeting itself. Report Released on SWF-Ifri Workshop 

The report entitled "Towards Greater Security in Outer Space: Some Recommendations," produced with information gathered during a workshop co-sponsored by SWF and the L’Institut français des relations internationales (Ifri) held in Paris, France from June 18-19, 2009, has been released. Dr. Ray Williamson, SWF Executive Director, Space Policy Consultant Agnieszka Lukaszczyk, and Ifri's Laurence Nardon wrote and compiled the report. SatNews mentions the report here
