Space Warfare: Applying International Humanitarian Law to the Final frontier

This session invited Brian Weeden and other legal and technical experts for a discussion on the application of interational humanitarian law (IHL) to outer space. It explored compatibility of IHL with international space law and assess how civilian interests can be safeguarded through IHL rules. The session also considered the technical aspects of different technologies and behaviors in outer space, and the legal implications thereof. In addition, the session probed the rights and obligations of neutral states and states not directly participating in hostilities with the aim of identifying which issues require policy intervention.
