SWF Participates in Panel Discussion on Earth Observation and Open Geospatial Software Projects

Tuesday, September 4, 2018

SWF Director of Space Applications Programs Krystal Wilson took part in panel discussion on the "big picture" of the legal and policy frameworks, organizations, best practices and procedures, and new data sources that support the production and dissemination of Earth observations. Presentations covered overall policy and outreach, multilateral institutions and Earth observation data sources, and how participants could use them and were followed by an interactive discussion session. Ms. Wilson spoke about policy and legal issues in open geospatial projects.

This panel was part of the annual FOSS4G conference, the largest global gathering focused on open source geospatial software. FOSS4G brings together developers, users, decision-makers and observers from a broad spectrum of organizations and fields of operation. Through six days of workshops, presentations, discussions, and cooperation, FOSS4G participants explored effective and relevant geospatial products, standards, and protocols. This year’s conference was held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. An overview of the conference is available here.
