Barbara David

BarbaraBarbara David has been working on Secure World Foundation (SWF) public outreach projects as a part-time consultant for the last three years. Coordinating SWF-sponsored events and exhibit booths at space-related events, she also provides support for SWF projects. Barbara has a special interest in one of SWF's key issues, Community Remote Sensing, the use of satellite data to manage emergency response during and after a disaster. Over the last 22 years, Barbara has earned a reputation in the space, astronomy and Earth sciences community as a respected science education curriculum developer and as a science journalist.

Related to SWF's interest in Community Remote Sensing, Barbara co-authored the Event-Based Earth Science series of award-winning middle school curriculum modules on disasters funded by a million dollar grant from the National Science Foundation.

Barbara earned her teaching credential from the innovative teacher's education program at University of California at Santa Cruz and taught K-12 students in public and private schools. As a curriculum writer, she has authored or co-authored science curriculum units funded by NASA, National Science Foundation, National Science Teachers Association, IMAX, USA TODAY, The Discovery Channel, the X-PRIZE Foundation, and the Griffith Observatory.

For IMAX, Barbara created the IMAX Space Station Educator's Resource Guide, and co-authored USA TODAY's Visions of Exploration: Past, Present, Future curriculum. With Lonnie Jones Schorer, she co-authored Kids to Space Mission Plans: An Educator's Guide, a valuable collection of 94 of the best space-related lesson plans contributed by 90 space education organizations and NASA which includes 150 educational resources. Barbara's articles have appeared in the award-winning children's science magazine Odyssey, the National Space Society's Ad Astra Magazine, and Final Frontier Magazine.

For the last two decades, Barbara has covered at least ten space and science conferences every year, writing about them for the Coalition for Space Exploration's website and other publications. Through these conferences and living in Washington, DC for 13 years, Barbara has developed close relationships with national and international leaders in space exploration and science.

Education

Barbara holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Antioch College/West and a Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential from the University of California at Santa Cruz.
